I returned to hiking two years ago after a two decade long break. I quickly realized hiking was very different from what it used to be. The equipment, shoes, backpacks, clothes, poles, everything was different. Most importantly, I had changed. While I was raising my family and chasing my career, I had aged. I was slower, my recovery time was slower, and I reacted differently to hiking trails. I knew I had to teach myself everything all over again.
I began with small local hikes with friends. Over the last two years, I have been on a lot of day hikes, hikes out of town and multi day endurance hikes. I slowly put together my hiking gear; some through trial and error, some with recommendations from friends and the rest through online research.
I noticed there is no dearth of hiking related information online, but it is not always applicable to women in their late 50s. Through my own experience, I have gathered a lot of valuable information. I am sharing my journey and experience in this blog and its corresponding YouTube channel to help anyone who, like me, loves hiking and is looking to get into it or get back to it in their late 50s.
